“Buzz Club is as much fun to run as it is to be in, it’s in my opinion the best job in camping.

Buzz is a club just for teenagers, it’s on 10 sites ideal for teenagers and runs in July and August. All the Buzz sites are large sites and have big Canvas teams on them.

My journey as a Buzz Courier started in June at training, which was great, all 10 of us had to plan and deliver our own Buzz sessions, the other Buzz Couriers joined in as if they were teenagers. By the end of the course we had seen 10 on site sessions in action that we could run on our own campsites.

Most of the weekly activities take place on site, making use of the facilities on the campsite. Some of the onsite activities aren’t too much different to Kids Club, we did water games, hunts and played filler games, I’d ensure they were a bit more competitive. Sports competitions feature heavily in the programme too, football, table tennis and mini golf are popular events.

Approximately twice a week we’d take the group to a theme park or off site activity, this was the teenagers and my favourite type of session. There aren’t many jobs where you get to go paintballing. Before you work with a off site venue it is important you complete a risk assessment with them.

I think it is important to get the teenagers out of their accommodation and making friends at Buzz Club, it’s vital you visit them as soon as they get to your site, as most teenagers won’t decide whether to go or not until they meet you.

A good Buzz Courier is a perfect role model and a friend. There are some bits of the job you can’t learn, you have to be the ideal type of person before you put on the Buzz t-shirt, you can’t learn how to be accepted into a group of Buzz Club teenagers. If you try to be cool in front of teenagers it won’t work, you just have to be yourself and hope they like you.

You’ll be surprised to know, or you may not believe me when I tell you that most Buzz Club groups are full of really nice teenagers. They listened whenever I asked them to do something and made an effort to make friends with all other members. Buzz is great because the teenagers who go, go because they want to go, and enjoy it when they do.
