Whats It Like To Be A Childrens Courier
“The best thing about being a Children’s Courier is how much more fun the kids make the job. You get some brilliant characters coming to your club every day, they kept me entertained as I ran games and activities for them, the second best thing is you actually get paid to play games and have fun abroad!
Life as a Children's Courier started for me with a three day training course at a site near Paris. We covered the important bits like health and safety and the fun parts like games and activities. I’d say there was the right balance between the two. My favourite part of training was meeting and sharing ideas with lots of other Children's Couriers, it was really useful seeing their different styles of leading games and activities.
After the course we all went our separate ways to our own campsites. You have a couple of days to set up your tent and get ready when your club opens. You will remember your first session forever, my session was decorating the tent, soon your tent should be full of the children’s and your arts and craft masterpieces.
Right from the start of the season I saw if you do a good job, you get lots of good feedback from very grateful parents, you might even get the occasional present or gift too!
Numbers were very high during the school holidays at the end of May. This week was great, you can trial run all of the activities that need a high attendance. I did treasure hunts, Harry Potter days and finished the week with a big party, we got taught the chocolate game on training, it’s by far the way to finish a party off.
Customers pay a lot of money in peak season, so it goes without saying you have to be at the top of your game. You won’t get a minutes peace whilst you’re using the pool or the bar, the kids will not leave you alone, the children think Kids Club is on all day every day, it also showed me I was doing a good job and I did not mind them coming up to me at all.
A good Children's Courier’s plays all the games and joins in with all the activities, you are there to run the sessions and ensure they are safe but its important to make the effort to be a club member as well.
If you’re the right type of person Children's Courier is an easy job to get right, and it you get it right then its great fun for you, put in the planning, keep your tent tidy, visit your customers and most importantly be enthusiastic. If you chose to take on the role good luck with your application, and I might see you on training.
