Whats It Like To Be An Area Manager
“Having been an area manager I can honestly say that it is the best job (at least that I’ve seen) going. It is also one of the most demanding, challenging, and surprising roles you could ever experience.
Anyone who enjoys customer contact, working in a very close knit team environment and enjoys taking on heavy responsibilities should be seriously considering this role.
The company will ask a lot of you.
You will ask a lot of your team.
They in turn will ask a lot of you.
You will be entrusted with a large group of staff starting from 3-4 and building up to 30+ during July and August. It will be how you approach these people and the training you give them that will determine how successful you will be come the end of the “nowhere near long enough” season.
You will be the front line of support to these staff members ranging from first time travellers, first time workers, seasoned travellers and people with more life experience than yourself. All of whom will expect very different things from you!
You’ll start the experience with extensive training out in the field and then take on a small team and prepare all of the sites in your geographical area to the highest standard, sometimes to the hardest deadlines, an experience neither you or your team will forget for all the right reasons, the team spirit, banter and satisfaction gained from it. It can be hard and the weather rough but altogether a great experience!
Your sites will very soon start opening and filling up with our customers who can be demanding, however campers are the friendliest and most accommodating of customers if given the service expected, this being given by your example and leadership throughout the entire season.
You will encounter problems throughout the season and in my opinion it’s the way you support and guide your staff through this that is your biggest responsibility, this support in turn is provided by the operations team who are there to guide you.
You will work with some amazing people, some not so. That’s all part of it and any area manager who has gone to it with the right attitude and motivations will agree to it being one of the best things they have or ever, will do!!!!”
